Virginia Tech’s School of Visual Arts wanted to get away from the Virginia Tech website template. They really wanted to compete with the top five art schools in the country while highlighting their programs and show student work. This website was a part of a school-wide rebranding effort to evaluate the credibility of the Art program at Virginia Tech.
Virginia Tech’s School of Education wanted a redesign of their Creating High Expectation’s website. The wanted a look to engage students, teachers, and parents. I used a colorful and gridded layout in order to not overwhelm the viewer with the amount of information the site contained.
This was a T-shirt design for the Student Government Association at Virginia Tech. It was a competition piece that won for the Maroon Effect football game. The t-shirt was worn for the game against Miami on September 26, 2009 and Virginia Tech sold over 100,000 shirts.
This was a collaborative project with Modea. Virginia Tech needed a website for the Solar Decathlon Competition where they would unveil their entry titled LumenHaus. With the original scope of the project, I was made the initial concept artist. As the scale of the site grew, however, my concepts were integrated into a more expansive version through Modea. I stayed on as a student designer and helped complete comps for the site, met with the client, and provided feedback.
Virginia Tech’s Scool of Visual Arts devoloped a new Master of Fine Arts in Creative Technologies. My challenge was to develop a brand and a poster to advertise the new program to prospective students.
I created a packaging product that would incorporate my family name, Maglio. The brand consisted of three different bottles with colors corresponding to year, as well as a boxed wine, canned wine, and a collector’s glass.
I wanted to create a design that really spoke to designers. I love the typeface Helvetica and many designers today face the problem of if it is over used or just the perfect typeface. I decided to use the characters and incorporate a barcode to show the corporate aspect of the typeface.
I was given the task of creating a type-heavy poster advertising multiple events in a visually stimulating way. This project held many restrictions in which we had to follow such as abiding by a university style guide.
While working for JAT Digital Solutions, Jose Torres wanted to create a website for his photography business. He originally wanted to keep it simple and have small photographs, but I decided to use full screen pictures, showing off his photography, while using color pallets from his photographs.
Dr. Ho's Humble Pie is a small gourmet pizza resturant located in Charlottesville, Virginia. When wanting to redo their site, they wanted it to have the look and feel of the resturant itself.
While working for JAT, I created this drink menu for a Mexican Resturant located in Blacksburg, VA. We wanted the menu to entice the viewer the try their magaritas, and they were very happy with the end result.
